Plans for 2025 Because Why Not?

Oh hey... been a while since I made a post. Sorry about that

Part of it is a weird gear grinding thing.. or spinning tires? I've wanted to post--and that is why I've not been able to post

I did make an attempted at an unofficial NaNoWriMo type scenario. Without being involved in the website

I ended up doing two stories over the course of Novembre. Neither finished. One got up to about 20k words... and the other about 26k words. If I didn't get distracted by intense pain, I'd have likely been able to finish those two, and a third

I mean, uneditted of course. The First Draft is super easy. People act like reading and writing is hard

Either way... end of the year, time to go over different notions that I didn't get last year--while also going over stuff for this year

Unique Computer Setups

So, one of the things I wanted to mess with over the course of 2024 was nonstandard computer setups. Between small screen "type writer" type deals, or odd rPi setups... or modding TheC64 Mini or modding an Amiga 500 Mini... but uh... none of that got much for going along

The rPi400 being connected to my AtGames ALU ran into issues with the lack of proper furniture to use it effectively. Then somehow some liquid got into it (no idea what liquid) and then the AtGames ALU's display started not working properly

I was not able to acquire a Flipper Zero, a PiDP, Commander X16, MNT Reform, Framework Laptop, Raspad or a replica IMSAI 8080 setup this past year

I did manage to acquire a Dendy and two new replacement Thunkpads

The issue with the Raspad is that it seems to be mostly available in the USA--and not so much available in Canada. At least not on Amazon's Canadian page. Which uh... The listings and login for Canadian Amazon do not cross over to American Amazon... and neither do the gift cards. It does appear to have listings on Canadian eBay... but uh...

eBay has decided I am a hacker or robot or something--as me just doing normal decisions have flipped its various guards questioning my validity. Using the Internet kind of sucks with that software's dumb silly false positives and false negatives going about

I will continue to do stuff over the course of 2025

I do hope to mod my Dendy to have a lot more stuff in it. To justify me adding sticker letters spelling the words "Super" and "Kami" next to the "Dendy" sticker on the case. I have a few ideas--not certain if any of them are possible though

Software End

On the Software end, I've grabbed a lot of books for working on figuring out how to do nonstandard computer setups at the software end of things

Still working on getting it so I'm not completely awful at doing stuff in Vim, Emacs, Haskell and writing software

A lot of this stuff, however, is going to be listed as "art projects". In that they generally aren't meant for proper usage in any real way. Just meant to be a proof-of-concept... and be a set of "dumb computer tricks"

Languages

Still going to work on learning languages. I had to pause due to me dealing with intense migraines over the course of 2024. Which was also one of the major things that paused other activities in 2024

I've started putting on stuff in my target languages in the background to help acclimatise myself to the sounds of the language. Don't know if this is helpful--but considering I was able to do it, when looking at my text books made me go cross-eyed... it was something, I guess?

My current target languages are still

  • Mandarin: mostly for the Mandarin Clerical Script. This is for applying to my "nonstandard" computer setups. To make scanning stuff on a screen go quicker. It is also to help speed along learning Cantonese, Korean and Japanese. Cantonese uses the same writing script. Japanese uses Mandarin Clerical Script as punctuation marks (well, not exactly). Korean will sometimes thrown Hanji in amongst stuff to be difficult
  • Japanese: mostly because there is a fair amount of media out there that knowing Japanese is easier than waiting for a translation. Also, if I get good enough at it, I can work to start translating stuff
  • Korean: I've stopped having awkward interactions with Korean Women. I've also stopped talking with people--so if I ever socialise there is a chance I might get into odd scenarios with Korean Women again. Must learn how to speak Korean to determine how much of these social faux passes are because of failings on my end
  • Cree: my first language, that I do not remember how to speak. I do think in it still--and my "English" is also not really full proper English as a side effect of this. Relearning this language will be helpful towards learning further languages
  • French: Mostly because I am Canadian, this will be helpful for me to get jobs, grants and what not in this country. I'm fairly certain I could pester the government to give me money if I go out of my way to have more computer software, books, manuals, etc. into French. It should be noted that I've been reading some French translations in manuals and packaging... and holy crap is this some low quality translations for a lot of it
  • Russian: Mostly to be able to properly use Cyrillic in various nonstandard computer setups. Between adding more flavour to my Dendy. Essentially having my PiDP setup done entirely in a Russian/Cyrillic Locale does amuse me--as the PDP operating system _did_ have a Soviet Knockoff that never really went anywhere
  • Hebrew: I will be looking into various Western Esoteric Systems. Which seem to fetishise (both definitions) the Hebrew language and associated character set. Which is funny as most of the history of these systems being done, the societies behind this stuff was going into the woods and doing mild [Geno's Hard Cider] on various settlements of Jewish people. I intend to use this stuff as part of art projects

I am going to compare how much progress I am making with various games I am playing. I'll look at time put into the games... and then determine how bad I should feel about playing games instead of learning this stuff

It should be noted that the phrase is "10 000 hours to being an expert" not one thousand. Ten times that amount. If you are doing 5 hours a day, with 250 days of working towards something in a yea, it would take roughly 8 years to get to the ten thousand hours. At ten hours a day, it is four years... but uh... that isn't really a rational pace to keep for people

There is a reason it is coined as "all it takes is fifteen minutes a day"... I will let you know what the maths for that would be, with the 5hr/d and 250d/a pace taking 8 years to reach. Actually, I'll tell you... it would be 160a

There are seven languages here... so the goal would be 70 000 hours to get to being an "expert"... and uh... Even dropping down to ~2hr/d for each, and switching to a 125d/a setup (essentially a day one, day two learning setup going)... 14hr/d (technically 8hr one day, 6hr on the other day)... and one year would get me onto 1687hr... if I am actually able to do that pace without my brain deciding to say "screw you, I am out" due to intense migraine pain

I mean, after two or three years of this pace--I'd be good enough to sound like an idiot to native speakers. So... it is feasible to do this stuff

Writing

Well, I do hope to get more into writing over the course of 2026. Mostly in the area of this blog having stuff posted onto it. However, I also do want to write some fictional pieces. Mostly meant to be weird or strange--based upon my nightmares, mixed with how I generally approach problem solving (which I have been told is weird)

Artwork

I hope to get back into doing artwork over the course of 2025. Mostly because I am hoping to get to work on making some video games. Mostly a mixture of edutainment, back porting and various other game notions/ideas and what not

By drawing stuff out to be artwork--I can go from there to figure out in game graphics for stuff and nonsense and what not

Sewing and Repairs

I also own a sewing machine now. So I hope to get into learning how to use that effectively over this year. To repair my clothing--but also to make clothing items

I also have a bunch of stuff to modify my electronics, that are currently in their packaging, waiting for me to get around to adding them

I've also got some stuff to diagnose my issues with my AtGames ALU, and possibly work around the current hardware failure on its part

I hope that I can check out stuff on PCPWay that other people are doing to improve my various stuff around my place. On top of me reading up books on stuff

That and supporting "Right to Repair" where and when I can. While also avoiding electronics that are less easy to repair. I suppose Thunkpads are the exception to that... but honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if I could track down stuff to hack various Thunkpad models for various stuffs

I also have a long list of stuff on a wishlist specifically for making my AtGames ALU as gaudy as possible--as a bit of a lark... which I will be grabbing... not to have it be more effective. More to have it be more ridiculous

Silly fun

So... going to work on playing more video games to try to fight mental degradation. I have no idea how many times I've been struck in the head. This, naturally includes 3D navigation games--but increased to ~25hrs/wk. On top of older arcade games--and various puzzle games

I'm also going to buy myself a slice of pizza for every book I finish. As I do have a decent "to be read" pile

I also hope to grab more stuff from Evercade... as well, they have some really fun stuff available. Maybe get the two Evercade Alpha systems--and look into what is available to do hardware mods on them as well

As well, I do have a goal to try to get as many high scores on my AtGames Core and AtGames ALU to be in the top 100 worldwide for the system I am playing them on. With the idea being once I do that, to buy a newer AtGames ALU model (I think they have an HD/4K ALU of some kind)

Other

Going to work on a bunch of other weird dumb nonsense. Mostly as odd art projects based around silly SciFi stuff involving Demon Summoning systems or the idea of pulling stuff in from other timelines

That being said, this is going to require me reading up a lot of stuff on computer science, theoretical maths, western esotericism and music canon from various reasons. Ontop of various conlangs and what not

Just a quick blog post for nobody to actually care about, really
